Sex Criminal Preacher Prompts Protest

Mark Hourigan’s ordination at the The City of Refuge Worship Center reminds us that sex criminals are treated worse than murderers.

On any other Sunday, protesters likely would not have been outside of The City of Refuge Worship Center. But this time was different because a man charged with sodomy, sexual abuse and intimidation of an 11-year-old boy back in 1998, was ordained.

Call him Pastor Mark Hourigan.

Registered sex offender now ordained by Germantown church

“The key thing is for other members of this church congregation is to be on the lookout and to be careful of their children,” said Cal Pfieffer, one of the protesters and a member of the Survivors Network of Those Abused by Priests (SNAP).

Inside the Goss Avenue building, member Mark Hourigan grabbed local and national attention for the role he is taking on. It comes two years after he joined City of refuge.

Church ordains registered sex offender as minister

In Amnerica one wrong act, no matter the quality that puts a person on a sex offender list effectively abridges his civil rights for the rest of his life.

Crimes against minors are evil. But allowances must be made for real repentance and recovery. Luckily for Hourigan members of his church are willing to give him that chance.
